The Dailies. August 8, 2025

Did you work on your language today? Create any new rules of grammar or syntax? New progress on a script? New words in your lexicon?

On the other hand, do any excavating or reading or enjoying stuff you’ve already created? Do you have any favorites to share?

How did you conlang today?

  1. So it’s been a long time, but a TON of derivational and paradigmatic grammar has been acquired in Dayin Kofnes (the War Clans’ language), so most of my words come with several derivatives right now, right out the gate:

    1. beshibeshi / beshibeshni – to wake up a little
    2. beshebesh – I’m waking up
    3. beshighra – to wake up all the way

This is also a prime example of me absolutely ignoring the proper way to document lexicon and using my own preferred shorthand to do so. Like the -ni on there is part of the verb that does not belong to the verb root, but I wanted to remember that it loses the final -i whenever it actually attaches to that. Which it should ostensibly always attach to that but beshibeshi is the actual verb, which itself is an example of their productive diminutive reduplication.

    1. I have solved my prompt grammar question! Losing the -i from -shi verbs is on the imperative, but not regular verbs.

      Added today:

Dupshni kangaa ittaa. “Make noise if in danger or if something bad happens.”

      dupsh-ni kang-aa itt-aa

      make.noise-ABS.ANIM danger-LOC bad-LOC

wherein the verb for “make noise” is actually dupshi. It’s hardly the first -shi verb (I think that was ayagueshi, “to love romantically”), so clarifying the paradigm is helpful for future reference!

    2. This is very interesting and all and I’m sure I would have something more intelligent to say about it if I were not reading it at the very end of the day right before I sleep, but instead the first thing that came to mind was this terrible playlist I once made out of all the songs on the “Wake Me Up (disambiguation)” Wikipedia page (plus a couple bonus ones), so I hope you get a kick out of that at least.
