The Dailies. August 17

Did you work on your language today? Create any new rules of grammar or syntax? New progress on a script? New words in your lexicon?

On the other hand, do any excavating or reading or enjoying stuff you’ve already created? Do you have any favorites to share?

How did you conlang today?

  1. I finally truly know what all my clicks are and am redoing the phonology table!

Now, if I could just figure out where a lateral click pronounced as far back on the palate as possible (with the tongue covering the entire palate during the click) is supposed to show up on said table. I’m thinking palatal, despite the fact that “palatal” clicks are a separate thing.

Also, did you know those hl and khl clicks I couldn’t figure out how to describe or whether they were lateral fricatives instead? They’re considered affricates despite the fact that they’re simultaneous stop/fricative not a sequence. It’s a velar lateral fricative + alveolar or lateral click. And that’s a real thing! It’s not just me weirdly fricating the pocket of air made for a click.

I swear, every weird thing this language did because it felt right has found some basis in natlangs. Now, if I can just figure out the realistic one for my proximate, animate referents.

    1. ‘Grats on the click development! I want to make a conlang with clicks someday but… it seems daunting!

It must be so cool to find the stuff you’ve been working with in natlangs!
