The Dailies. November 25

Did you work on your language today? Create any new rules of grammar or syntax? New progress on a script? New words in your lexicon?

On the other hand, do any excavating or reading or enjoying stuff you’ve already created? Do you have any favorites to share?

How did you conlang today?

  1. New words for Firen today! I wanted to wish my friend a good Lexember in Firen, and it turns out I didn’t have all the words I needed for that. And I decided to coin several more which are somewhat related because it turns out Firen was woefully lacking in basic verbs.

    • slon, hope/to hope (agentive-transitive)
    • gima, to carry, to bear (strictly divalent)
    • jesta, to pay (a-t)
    • vus, to bring (s/d)
    • seza, to send (s/d)
    • bem, to earn (s/d)
    • vul, to deserve (s/d)
    • kuna, to owe (s/d)
      • kune, debt

The only words from that list I ended up using today are slon and vus, but the others will doubtless be used before long. The sentence I wrote is:

Slonadudu vusudobo baskebanaoki kogo missi fummu gogu.

“I hope that your word-making brings you much value.”

I used an HTML table generator to make and format a gloss so hopefully this works right:

    — table deleted because it broke when I edited the comment. —

To avoid that happening on the other comment, I’ll just say as an errata that baskebanaoki on the below table should be baskebanouku because of vowel harmony. I edited it in this comment but I don’t want to touch the other one.

  2. Okay so for some reason the comment editor only has the menubar for root-level comments and when you try to reply to or edit a comment you can’t access the menu bar, and therefore you can’t get to the source code editor. All that to say that I’m just going to have to fix the table in a totally separate comment instead.

Slona -du -du vusu -do -bo baske -ba -nao -ki kogo missi fummu go -gu.
hope -A1pX -P3pD bring:SBJ -A3pD -P3pI word -make -ing -ERG your much value you -DAT
    1. Scrolling isn’t ideal but I guess that’ll have to do, since I don’t know how much CSS is allowed in these comments and I don’t want to do trial-and-error investigation, especially when I can’t do it by editing an existing comment. It is still kind of broken on my phone but it works when I request the desktop site at least.

      1. Sorry! The plugins to allow a rich editor and to allow comment editing are different plugins and I can’t make editing use the full editor without making everyone an administrator, sadly.

          1. Sadly, that is the table plugin. It works to paste a table in the first time, but on editing a comment, best to delete and do a new comment I’ve found. 🙁 sorry. I spent a long time trying to plugin my way to better comment capabilities and this was the best I could do. I don’t even know if the picture upload is still working. It’s gone in and out as WP applied updates, but I didn’t disable it because sometimes it does work.
