The Dailies. October 1, 2021

Did you work on your language today? Create any new rules of grammar or syntax? New progress on a script? New words in your lexicon?

On the other hand, do any excavating or reading or enjoying stuff you’ve already created? Do you have any favorites to share?

How did you conlang today?

  1. Have any of you used VulgarLang? It seems to get some flack from people who feel “real” conlanging has to be done from scratch but it seems like it could be a time saver for certain projects. I am considering getting it for those langs that fall between “just a naming lang” and “want to spend lots of time manually building things” on my spectrum of time spent.

    1. I know nothing about it! Can you tell me more? Perhaps it could indeed be a useful resource for me as well to help get a feel for the language of neighbouring ethnicities.

      1. It’s basically a random generator that gives you phonology, phonotactics and basic grammar of a language as well as randomly generated basic vocab, and if you are not using the trial version you can also tweak stuff yourself, add, remove etc and save the languages and keep tweaking them. I haven’t had a deep-look so I don’t know how good the quality or how deep the generation goes but on a cursory look it seems to have decent variation and like it could certainly be helpful as a tool either to get started with a lang, or to just make a quick lang where you for whatever reason don’t wanna spend a lot of time building. Apparently the premium version (which is like 30 bucks) also has some kind of tool for generating child languages? But I haven’t bought yet so I haven’t been able to check it out. Link is here if you wanna have a look. You can use it for free but without some of the features and limited vocab.
