  1. Today’s work is a start on directions for Kofnea-Kolos, acknowledging that some of these are kind of obvious based on how many proper names have already incorporated them:

    1. hilakh – n. north
    2. vean – n. east
    3. daan – n. south
    4. yoakh – n. west
    5. pasech – n. northwest
    6. ahid – n. northeast
    7. doesh – n. southeast
    8. ishiam – n. southwest

Figured out that the Heavenly Stems / Earthly Branches of traditional Chinese timekeeping are the closest example of the type of nonalphabetic phoenix to dragon sequence used by the clans in naming things, and it definitely gave me interesting ideas on how to expand on that kind of system and interrelate it with alphabetic and numerical order. Which I have never sat down and done the phonetic inventory and writing system for them in any way at all, let alone an appreciable one. But it’s kinda on the agenda again. Ish.

    1. You have distinct words for all the eight directions, not just the four main ones! That’s so cool!

(I don’t know much at all about Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches, but is this the kind of thing that is reflected in taoism a lot?)

      1. I’m not sure. I found them via traditional time and discovered they sub in for directions (much like 2 o’clock, etc. being used for directions) and alphabetical order and a host of other things, but I didn’t notice anything specific about Taoism. They do correspond to the traditional elements (at least the earthly branches do), so maybe?
