The Dailies. August 6, 2023

Did you work on your language today? Create any new rules of grammar or syntax? New progress on a script? New words in your lexicon?

On the other hand, do any excavating or reading or enjoying stuff you’ve already created? Do you have any favorites to share?

How did you conlang today?

  1. I’m so thoroughly behind on recent developments that I’ve been putting off trying to figure out how to cover them, but in short, still working on the script. Have a character in the book I wasn’t planning on but just made sense that’s from the same place as Leshet, but he was actually born along with this adult generation rather than a few back, so I’ve got comparative dialects and now am really wishing I could get happy with a word for language, so it’d be easier to track this stuff.

But in lieu of actually playing full catch up, I’ll just drop this:

    1. -sunaa – (Ginieng-Kolos) name suffix meaning from, e.g. someone who says they are Ginieng-sunaa is saying they’re from the place Ginieng
    2. -noraii – (Kinaang-Adan) name suffix meaning from, e.g. someone who says they are Kinaang-noraii is saying they’re from the place Kinaang
    3. -gn – (Ishiam-Kolos) name suffix meaning from, e.g. someone who says they are Taegung-gn is saying they’re from the place Taegung
    4. -sasuot – name suffix meaning descendant, implying someone born after the ancestor / lineal ascendant is deceased or at least who never met or knew them
    5. -sundok – name suffix meaning ancestor, implying someone who died before their descendant was born or who never met or knew them, contrasts with -sushiets, which refers to non-immediate relatives, usually ancestors / lineal ascendants, who one (of the conversants) either met or knew or were at least alive at the same time

    1. Very handy words to have! Love the distinction between ancestors and descendants you have met or at least were alive at the same time and those you haven’t.
