Lexember 3, 2023

Welcome to the Lexember Challenge!

Every year, conlangers can take the opportunity for the month of December to challenge ourselves to add a new word to our conlang’s lexicon.

What word have you coined today? Any cultural or associated worldbuilding notes? Tell us about your inspiration!

  1. This probably counts as Lexember (5 whole tokens worth!), though I don’t actually intend to fully develop a Northland language at all. But basically, in the world of Kofnea, Northland is the nation directly north of the Paschtha clans and their War Queen marries a prince of Northland, and they supposedly keep the same calendar, but it’s slightly different and their language is different, even though it branched off the same original colonizing language originally.

In the interests of the calendar bit, these came up:

    1. spring – sukkes, from originally “first dragon”
    2. summer – suvien, from originally, “sun dragon”
    3. autumn – suvania, from originally, “flame dragon”
    4. winter – suchoet, from originally, “night dragon”

Seasons begin on the solstices and equinoxes instead of ending them, which actually puts their solar calendar off by one day from that of the War Clans.

And then some numbers (which counts as one token to me for this; I did them all in a lump and don’t intend to get mathier):

    • 1. ais, from hes
    • 2. waes
    • 3. giwe
